I use a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle - plug the Foxtel box into that over Component and then plug the Shuttle in via USB 3.0 (only supports USB 3.0 attached to an Intel chipset - you can get a PCIe card version of the Intensity too - much more reliable) into the computer, and use the included Media Express app to capture playback out of the Foxtel box. It will go head-to-head with Foxtel iQ, which costs up to $15.95 on top of Foxtel's cable service and, like TiVo, allows users to pause and rewind live television and access on-demand shows.

Rubbish! Canceling after 1 week!

Iq3 is a joke! Nothing works it’s so slow and laggy! Missed a few recordings and constantly restarting! Bye bye Foxtel! Iq2 was so much better! $65 for sports and HD! It’s 2018 where’s 4K? Why $10 for a hand full of HD channels come on Foxtel! Going down hill!

Absolute piece of junk

Thought we were upgrading from a MyStar box to an IQ3, unfortunately it has been a massive downgrade. The IQ3 could not stream a HD movie to save its own life. Torrents download in 1/3 of the time. I can stream 4k movies through my xbox one x so it is not my 100Mbps internet. Input lag is horrendous, random crashes and frequently missed/half completed recordings. This thing is an absolute nightmare. I torrent more movies than I watch on foxtel. Simply because it downloads them in a fraction of the time. Some movies can take up to 24 hours to download. Not ideal then you want to watch a movie on Friday night and it does not complete until Saturday evening. Movies ordered from the foxtel store are no longer streamed through the satellite. It downloads from the internet which is just horrendously slow. Foxtel were instrumental in banning torrent sites in Australia, then offer this sub-par service in return. Thankfully it takes literally 10 seconds to circumvent.

Is the interface easy to navigate? NO. It is slower than my grandma down a flight of stairs.
Do you find the storage space adequate? Wouldn't know, it fails to record 95% of the time.
Are you satisfied with the recording quality? See above.
Is the unit reliable? (i.e. records on time, no missing shows). Absolutely not. Our MyStar unit was old, but it was light years ahead in every aspect. I will utter the words FOXTEL with a very salty mouth for the rest of my life.

Give me iq2 any time

I have both iq2 and iq3 and I am most unhappy with the recording function in 3, whoever designed it has had no experience of recording live sport for later watching. The recovery function is atrocious and I’d love to replace it with an iq2 which works beautifully.
Bells and whistles have replaced simple and effective functionality.

IQ3 box is great! Happy

We needed to update our old Austar box as it was about to die. I was hesitant to go the IQ3 box based on the reviews but upon speaking with Foxtel they said that it was fine and just get the tech to come and set it all up properly and we shouldn’t have any issues. It seemed that people that had bad issues may have set it up themselves.
We honestly can’t fault it and we’ve had it for a week. Recording is easy, navigating is easy, remote works when we hit the buttons and just loving it.
Only downfall is that the free to air channels aren’t the normal channels on a TV but at least we still have access to them (I can’t set shows up to record from my foxtel app, but can through the box itself)

Absolute Disgrace

Upgraded both my units from an IQ2 to an IQ3 for around $300 and they are pieces of junk. The remote and UI are embarrassingly laggy and whoever designed the UI did a really poor job from a useability perspective. Navigation is a joke. I can’t believe I got conned into parting with my money for this.

John

Why wasnt I told its only good if you connect to the internet

Pretty ordindary, cant search for a program name, shows messages about recording to many shows when not even selecting that mode, waste of money. When pausing to see scores etc the bottom 1/3 of the screen is black, bloody pointless. Awkward to navigate around the system, as i said waste of money

garbage

2nd review of iq3 i was called out to connect vcr combo to iq3 but the iq3 has no outlet points only hdmi out so you can not connect to old equepment when customer asked for iq2 box foxtel wants another 170 dollers greedy company trying to push iq3 garbage on to cust

IQ3 not worth it to people connected via satellite

I got the IQ3 a few weeks ago to replace my IQ2. I now wish I hadn't. I am connected via satellite and resent the fact that I am still paying a lot of money for less features than I had with IQ2. The basic thing that frustrates me is that I can no longer enter a title and search for programs. I do not find it easy to navigate and also find the black background in the program guide strains my eyes and would like to be able to change it to a lighter colour as the IQ2. Saying that, it does have some good features but definitely not what it's cracked up to be. I feel strongly that customers who are connected via satellite are penalized and perhaps should receive a discount for not getting full use out of IQ3. If there are so many issues now, what's it going to be like when Foxtel finally catches up with Europe (the UK had IQ5 last year).

FOXTEL like health insurance not really worth the hassle

Had the iq2, got talked into another package with iq3 , straight away slower device . stupid navigation. Cant watch a movie on demand as it downloads via the slow internet connection i have instead of via satilette as per the iq2 did.
Spent hrs of my life battling support to get it turned back on to iq2. Lots of extra charges and pain getting credit notes
Kids even gave up and just went to netflix .

Foxtel going down hill on steady pace .

Don't get the IQ3

We were sold this to replace our original IQ box and was promised more disc space, record 3 shows at once, etc etc. But some shows we have on series link dont record. We cant easily see the shows we have recorded or how much disc space is left. The old format was so much more organised. Hate this IQ3. I wish i never got it. This still misses shows, tapes them late cuts off the ending, so nothing changed except it os slower and more hit and miss with the recording. I hate IQ3! Dont get itT!

July 25th 2018 Update: Useless piece of technology

Unreliable, slow to respond to remote action, disc space tiny, you lose shows you have taped, not user friendly, i want my IQ2 back. I Will be contacting Foxtel to request this. Reckon this is a dud, and the salesperson conned us into believing this was better! Ripped off big time!

Noelie

Great, no problems

Foxtel IQ3 We had an issue at first with our IQ3 box and was advised a new box would be sent however we got it going to late to cancel have since had no issues. It had plenty of space, very reliable, right on time when recording and has a nice picture, we are extremely satisfied

Total downgrade from iQ2

I have rated the iQ3 a one star, we have been with Foxtel for around 10 years, about 3 years ago we (supposedly) upgraded to iQ3.
We have since phoned Foxtel to say programmes are not recording, the system keeps freezing, about 6 times, each time they reset it and say that’s fixed it, and each time it goes again.
Two weeks ago we had Foxtel put into a second room iQ2, when we called we said or iQ3 was playing up and was told to ask the technician when he was out.
We asked the technician to look at the iQ3 and we were told that it’s pointless as we had one of the older boxes and re-setting it would not fix it, he also said that next time we had to call because it’s not working to ask for a new iQ3 as they have now fixed the issues.
Well we just had a hour conversation with Foxtel, who are clearly working from a script, they were very rude talking over us, also not listening to what we were saying, we asked them several times to slow down and speak clearly, bearing in mind we have had Foxtel for over ten years, you might have thought we would deserve some loyalty back, no we have now reset the system again, and quess what it’s working fine, but it always does after reseting.
I hope they send us a new box and show us some loyalty back, but I am not holding my breath.
I think next time I have to phone them I will record it myself and send it to the umbudsmen. One very upset customer.......

Impressed with IQ3

Well I’m not sure why there are so many 1 star reviews on the IQ3 box from foxtel, I was skeptical at first as well and when I got offered it as an upgrade I agreed, short time after I looked at the reviews and I was like I don’t want to do this, then it arrived, easy to install and wow I was impressed, people say the remote is slow and it’s not, the system is hard to navigate and it’s not, the new operating system is easy to use after the first navigation you do with it, so yup 5 star review from myself.

Mark

Piece of crap

Ive had this box sinse its release, the box is slow as hell. You literally have to press a button wait, press the next button and wait, click what you want, wait, it will load the show page and episode lists eventually. The remote screws up all the time and i have to take the batteries out and put them back in all the time. I was told the box upgrade from my star to iq3 would be free yet was charged 250 ish dollars, called and was told i would be refunded, i wasnt, called again was told the same thing a month later, still no refund, it never came.. a friend with the iq2 says it never has the problems i have with the “best box” iq3..

JUST DOESN'T WORK

Will not stay connected to the internet (foxtel broadband as well this is not good either) keep your iq2 box. They seem to have gone backwards with the recorded programming as well, as it wont always show when you have viewed a recorded program. All together not enjoying to live with. R

Very pleased with upgrade from IQ2 to IQ3

After reading many negative reviews, I was hesitant about the change over from IQ2 to IQ3. However, I'm so pleased I did. IQ3 is a big improvement on IQ2 for me and opens up many viewing options that did not exist before. I was on cable Foxtel and I'm now on satellite. Installation went well and I've got no negatives at all to report. I can transmit Foxtel to another room and, with the Bluetooth remote, I don't have to set up the fiddly infrared connectors.

Trash!

Im so upset my IQ2 broke and i got this rubbish replacement! Im sick of consumers being expected to beta test every new model of gadgets. This box freezes, wont play at times and seems to have a mind of its own. Sure the recording and HD capacity is good; that is, when it works! We pay top dollar for this service that has rapidly gone downhill over the years.

Foxtel iq3. documentaries

I joined Foxtel its a bit more expensive than the streaming ones. but I find. the documentaries and the news type shows don't seem easy to find or available else where that I have found. no worries about internet connection. can record. I find I miss Foxtel if I haven't got it, i only have a small package basic plus documentaries

Great Piece of Technology

I just upgraded from the iq2 to the iq3. I find it a fantastic improvement. Sound and picture quality’s have improved and the interface is much friendlier. It was a nightmare finding a program on the iq2. Now it is easy. The only problem I have is with backspacing on a currently running program, which tends to freeze when the real time version ends.
Perhaps the multiple knockers on this site might want to work out their individual issues before comprehensively bagging a great product.

WHY FOXTEL

What a piece of trash. The unit is far slower any other IQ’s they have released. They switched to a Bluetooth remote so there are times it drops out and doesn’t respond for 60 seconds. When you’re finished watching a recording it asks you if you like to return to watching live TV. Like NSS that’s why I pressed the button. The library is hard to navigate. When you series like shows some recorded multiple episodes. Must frustrating price of technology I’ve ever used. STICK TO IQ2

Questions & Answers

I have NO idea what the blue card is.
After having Austar/Foxtel for 25 years and mystar2 box I phoned with a problem yesterday and enquired about a new box. I tape 2 channels and watch a third almost daily. Tech offered me an IQ3 box as replacement. I have a Satellite dish, and was wondering how the iq3 are preforming now after reading a lot of poor reviews. I am wondering why I wasn’t offered IQ4. Glad of any comments. Net.
IQ3 is absolute rubbish and will have you pulling your hair out if you want to use wifi at all. There's so many of them about, they can't even give them away. Insist on an IQ4. You'll thank me.
